A few weeks ago, I was at the local Starbucks and I was talking to an individual about what type of e-book reader or tablet they might be purchasing in the future. They said they were holding off, and waiting for more features to appear, and for the market to get a little bit more competition so they can get a lower price. Indeed, this makes a lot of sense, and when you think about it, it appears that all of our electronic devices are now becoming one.
That is to say, more and more the lines are getting blurred and users tend to favor more all-in-one hybrid computer, hybrid devices. The constant evolution is hard to keep track of, and every time a company attempts to bring out a new device it seems Apple is one and a half steps ahead of their best efforts.
Indeed, there was a very cool article on this topic of Personal Computer Hardware Technology recently in the Wall Street Journal by Walker S. Mossberg, published on May 5, 2011 titled; ?Couch Potato On the Go: Watching TV On an iPad,? and he makes some good points in this article such as ?Apps seem to be the main method distributors have chosen for making TV available on the iPad Tablet. HBA just released one. These apps mainly offer delayed, not live, viewing.?
Walt also discusses what Netflix, Hulu, Xfinity TV, ABC Player, WatchESPN, and MLB At Bat are doing with apps on the iPad. Please go read this article and come back to this article as I?d like to switch gears for a moment and discuss something that came up at a recent Think Tank meeting which intrigued me, and caused me to tap out the keys to produce this article.
Perhaps, in the future folks will be out in the city more and spending money because they will not be sitting at home with all their fancy electronic equipment. After all, everything is becoming more mobile. This could spur on an incredible resurgence in the retail, restaurant, and hospitality industry. That also means more jobs, more payrolls, more consumers, and even more all-in-one computer hardware devices being sold. The reason I mention that is due to a recent survey by Neilson suggesting that the number of consumers who owned TV sets had gone down for the first time in history.
It appears that Apple?s iPod may eventually hit 50 million units sold and that?s just a start ? realize that?s just one company and before all the similar devices hit the market. It is interesting that everyone went out and bought a large screen TV in the last few years, and now everyone is reducing the size of their personal tech toys, so they can take them with them on the road. Needless to say, it?s a good day for computer hardware manufacturers, and it might spur our economy forward. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this.
