The Patriots have re-signed veteran running back/kickoff returner Leon Washington, a league source tells ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.Washington, who signed a one-year, $1.2 million contract with the Patriots in March that included a $360,000 signing bonus, was released last Sunday. Over the past week, he worked out for the Giants and Jets.
The signing of Washington brings the Patriots' roster to a full 53 players.
With Washington being signed for the first week of the season, it fully guarantees his new salary for the remainder of the 2013 season, making it more likely he could remain on the team's roster.
The signing could also tie into the availability of running back Brandon Bolden, who has been limited with a knee injury and was listed as questionable for Sunday's game.
