Book Review: In The Aerie of The Wolf ? BY THE BOOK

Set in 18th century England, our heroine Anne is betrothed to a man she?s never met and must leave behind her girlhood fantasies. When she arrives at the home of Lord Wolverton, Master of the Wolf?s Aerie, the mysteries and challenges of her new life cause her to seek Biblical wisdom and guidance concerning honor, integrity, and faithfulness. In this story of the discovery of true love, there is also danger, betrayal, and sword fighting?and it all takes place in a castle complete with secret passageways. Become lost in another time and place. You will not want to put this book down.

While born in Dubuque, Iowa,?Leonora Pruner?was brought to California by her parents during the Second World War, which has since been her principal residence.? In 1953, she graduated from Westmont College then earned an MBA from Pepperdine University in 1981.? Having married in 1953, she has seen her family expand from two children to thirteen grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.

Writing has been an important activity since junior high.? In the late ?60s, an eighteenth-century English character on?The Wonderful World of Disney, captivated her interest.? The desire to create a variation of him, led to five years of extensive research, followed by the publication of two period novels in 1981 and 1987,?Love?s Secret Storm,?and?Love?s Silent Gift.? Feeling that all that research should be reused, eighteenth-century England continues as a setting for her work.

From 1987 to 1997, she lived in the Republic of Maldives collecting folklore and teaching economics and computer science. While there, she wrote the first drafts of?Close to His Heart?andThe Aerie of the Wolf?on her computer.

My Impressions:

Leonora Pruner?s newest ?historical romance, In The Aerie of The Wolf, is part Gothic novel part fairy tale. ?Complete with a mysterious castle, secret passageways, and odd characters, it is perfect for those who love mystery, intrigue and romance in their books. ?And if you like Beauty and The Beast, you will love this tale.

Anne Crofton has come to the wilds of Yorkshire to marry a man she has never met. Her parents have sold her in marriage to rescue the fortunes of her family. Sir Andrew Lupus, Lord Wolverton, remains an illusive suitor even after her arrival to the Aerie. ?And despite the kindness and sensitivity he exhibits, he will not step out of the shadows to reveal his ugly appearance. Anne is faced with the decision to brave the unknown and perhaps dangerous life of mistress of the Aerie.

Faced with an unknown and self-proclaimed deformed husband, I am not sure many heroines would venture down the aisle as confidently as Anne. ?But she is determined to keep her vows and honor the deal her father has struck.

Early on, Anne is charged to look not on the exterior but on the heart of her husband. ?I am reminded of 1 Samuel 6:7 ?

People?look?on the outward appearance, but the?Lord?looks?at the?heart.

In The Aerie of the Wolf is all about choices, and Anne chooses to look at her husband?s heart. ?But of course, the way is not smooth. ?Anne and Andrew will face more danger, betrayal, and hardship before the end of the story. ?And they will both need to learn to trust God and each other.

I have not quite finished reading In The Aerie of The Wolf, but I have peeked at the ending! ?And while I won?t let slip any spoilers, I think you will enjoy the whole book.

Recommended for those who love a good fairy tale.
