Well for the HR Diagram, don?t know what you mean by the center strip, nonetheless most stars lie on the Main Sequence. Here?s what I have from notes that our professor posted on the power points:
90% of all stars are main-sequence stars
(of the 90%) 80% are red dwarfs : the most universal type of stars in the sky
9% are white dwarfs
1% are red giants
O- and B- type supergiants are extremely more infrequent: unique about one star in 10,000 falls in this category
