Red Cross Volunteers to Assist Florida Resisdents in Path of Isaac

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ? As Tropical Storm Isaac moves closer to Florida, six volunteers with Kansas City?s American Red Cross make plans to assist residents who may be affected.

The trained volunteers will join hundreds of other Red Cross volunteers from across the nation to prepare and provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance.

The American Red Cross encourages people with friends or family in the path of the storm to download a newly-developed Red Cross Hurricane app, which puts real-time information on hurricane safety at someone?s fingertips. The Hurricane App can be found in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for Android by searching for the American Red Cross.

The Red Cross also has two tools to help people stay in touch in times of emergency.? In the Red Cross Hurricane App, the one-touch ?I?m Safe? button lets someone use social media outlets to let family and friends know they?re okay. The Red Cross Safe and Well website is a secure and easy-to-use place where concerned family and friends can search the list of those who have registered themselves as ?safe and well.?

People can help those affected by disasters like tropical storms, hurricanes, floods and wildfires, as well as countless crises at home and around the country, by making a donation at www.redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED-CROSS, or texting the word ?REDCROSS? to 90999 to make a $10 contribution.

The Red Cross does nto get government funding and 97 percent of the work is done by volunteers. For more information, visit the Red Cross website.
