11-year-old girl drives 1,325 MPG concept car (Yahoo! News)

A streamlined design, fine-tuned diesel motor, and lightweight driver all contributed to mind-blowing fuel eff??

With gas prices still hovering well above where many of us would like, the move towards ultra-fuel-efficient vehicles is stronger than ever. And while gas/electric hybrid vehicles like the Chevy Volt and Toyota Prius boast some pretty impressive fuel figures, nothing quite compares to the Cambridge Design Partnership's (CDP) new concept car. A slick three-wheel design and super efficient motor help the vehicle reach an astonishing 1,325 miles-per-gallon fuel rating.

An impressive display, without a doubt, but what makes it even better, is its first public test run ? at the annual Milage Marathon Challenge at Mallory Park in the U.K. ? was piloted by an 11-year-old girl. The car uses an advanced GPS system called "Go" that lets the driver know when to accelerate and when to lay off the gas and coast, keeping fuel consumption to an absolute minimum. Young Kitty Foster simply listened to the Go system, made a few minor adjustments, and was able to complete the historic run without issue.

The CDP hopes that the new vehicle, along with its pint-sized pilot, will inspire students of all ages to take more interest in engineering and technology, and perhaps prompt additional green vehicle concepts. We doubt we'll see anything quite like the CDP concept speeding along our roads any time soon, but we'd happily embrace a bump in fuel economy, should any of the company's work end up in a production vehicle.
