Open Question: 10 gallon tank question of fish setup? 10 points ...

White Cloud Mountain Minnows are a good choice as previously mentioned. They are small shoaling fish that are quite hardy and tolerant of lower water temperatures. You might also consider adding a snail. Another option is the African Clawed Frog (the white ones, not the African Dwarf Frog, they are tropical). These are interesting little things but don't do well with fish as they carry disease so best kept alone.

I suggest that you buy a heater though. They are cheap enough and the edition of one of these would enable you to have a tank of guppies, mollies or similar. Maybe a Red Honey Gourami or Dwarf Gourami. Also many different varieties of shrimp or snail would be available.

As for telling the sex of your fish, this depends entirely on the type of fish in question. The factors of telling two sexes apart vary from fin formation and size to coloration. You would have to ask me about the specific type of fish in order for me to tell you.. for instance a male Red Honey Gourami will have a more pointed dorsal fin and display a darker red belly, a female has a rounded dorsal fin and lighter colored body. A male guppy is smaller than the female but a males tail will be larger and more colorful, it all depends on the species. I hope this helps, good luck, I'm sure your tank is gonna look great! XD
